Coil - Gold Is The Metal (With The Broadest Shoulders)
Gold Is The Metal (With The Broadest Shoulders), Coilâs vital 1987 album, is remastered and reissued.
The album was the third in a trilogy that began with Scatology and Horse Rotorvator, with much of the material emerging from the same period of recordings. It hones an "electro-erotics of sound," blending textural instrumental pieces with notable field recordings â including a drunken brass band captured in Mexico and a Thai boxing arena recorded by Sleazy. A key moment of serendipity is found in âMetal In The Headâ, which features a malfunctioning Fairlight sampler randomly rearranging and distorting the music.
Remastered under the guidance of original member Stephen Thrower, this new edition features restored artwork, previously unseen imagery and new sleeve notes, and marks the start of a new reissue series through The Grey Area of Mute.
Established in 1982 by Peter Christopherson (Sleazy) and John Balance, Coil began as an art and music project before expanding into a trio with Thrower in 1984. Their work remains a profoundly influential and enigmatic force within industrial and experimental music, fearlessly exploring themes of queerness, sex, drugs, magick and freedom.
